A little about me… 

I am from Hong Kong and have lived in the States for over 20 years. Unlike many food experts who started their culinary journey in their grandma’s kitchen or famous culinary school, cooking was never a part of my childhood curriculum. I was a novice, just like you, and didn’t cook my first meal until after I left college! I learned about this tasty craft and quickly fell in love with it. I taught myself all the cooking skills by flipping through many cookbooks, browsing numerous food blogs, and binge-watching every show I found on The Food Network or YouTube.

As a self-taught home cook, I’ve had my fair share of trials and errors, but I’m slowly honing my culinary skills in the kitchen. Cooking has become my favorite way to de-stress, and I’m deeply passionate about food and geek out on various cooking techniques. I love discovering new flavor combinations, creating recipes, and mastering to take mouth-watering food photos to share with foodies like you.

What is the meaning of “Chez” & “Lalonde”?

Chez Lalonde” means “At Lalonde’s” or “Lalonde’s Place” in English. It is a French phrase that refers to a person’s home or business.

Chez” is pronounced “Shay.” It doesn’t mean “Chef.” It means “At the Home/Place of” someone.

Lalonde” is my married name and pronounced “La-Lone” (Not La-Long-De)

I feel so grateful to my husband, whose amazing entrepreneurial skills created the perfect name for my business. This name is unique and fits perfectly on messages I want to convey to my readers.

Just like the meaning of this name: ” At the Lalonde’s,” I want you to feel at home, pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage and let’s chat about food together all day.

This is where I want to share everything I love with you.

Why does this food blog hold such a special place in my heart?

Food has a special kind of magic and is a powerful thing. It nourishes us, comforts us, and it brings people together. In my family, mealtime is the highlight of our day. We gather around the table every night, sharing stories, jokes, and delicious food. We sit together, put away our phones, and enjoy each other’s company. It’s become a cornerstone of our family culture. Cooking is my love language; it is my way of saying “I love you” and showing my family how much I care for them.

I aim to extend that love and connection to all my readers through my food blog. I hope to inspire that same sense of connection and joy in all of you.

My Blended Family

I am blessed to be the stepmom of three remarkable individuals. We have one young adult who just graduated from university and became an engineer and a dynamic duo of teenagers in high school. They’re not just smart and savvy but also hilarious, kind, and full of personality. They inspire me and push me to be a better version of myself daily. As a stepmom, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing my three amazing kiddos blossom into adulthood. I’m grateful for every moment I spend with them and for witnessing their growth firsthand!

Meet my husband

Meet my better half and my soulmate – André. We met back in 2014, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Hailing from the great city of Montreal (Hey there, Montreal readers!), he’s my biggest cheerleader and a constant source of encouragement. Without André’s support, my food blog would be just a dream. He’s been there for me since day one, lending his talents and business expertise to help me create a platform that truly inspires and delights. Whenever you see my hands in a food pic, you can bet that André’s behind the camera, snapping the perfect shot for me. I’m grateful for his support, help, and unwavering belief in me and my dreams.

Meet Milou & Coco

Meet my little adorable yet mischievous mini schnauzers – Milou (the white one) and Coco (the black one.) These two fur babies are sisters; I couldn’t love them more. They may be small but they make up for it in energy and enthusiasm. They’re always by my side, whether I’m in the kitchen whipping up a new recipe or just lounging on the couch. When they’re not napping, they’re always up for a game of fetch or begging for more apples, bananas, or carrots. They bring so much joy and laughter to our life; I wouldn’t have it any other way. Moreover, as a food blogger, I love that they don’t shed – no more hairy kitchen disasters or worrying about finding dog hair in my food.

I could totally talk your ear off with my life story, but I’ll spare you the boredom! Long story short, I’ve worn many hats in my career. From studying Fashion Design in Milan, working in luxury retail for 6 years, pivoting to the Sleep Apnea field, and finally co-founding a tech company with my husband in 2017. Whew! Nowadays, I work for my husband, but I need an outlet for my creative side. That’s where my food blog comes in! I get to flex my creative muscles and be business savvy all at once. Finally, I’ve found my calling and couldn’t be happier!

Absolutely! These are 100% my work. Teaching and sharing my cooking knowledge is my passion. It is my pride and joy to write and post my recipes here. Also, since 2009, I’ve been eager to learn food photography, but resources were limited. I’m thrilled to fulfill this dream and turn food blogging into my career. I couldn’t be happier!

I use a Canon 5D Mark IV camera with two main lenses: the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. I highly recommend considering these options if you’re interested in food photography.
